Ever wondered which topic to pick when you are trying to start blogging. Many of us experienced the same. You must be overwhelmed from where to start, about which topic you should write about. Most of the cases you are not sure about your passion, interest or even your expertise.
Let me say it loudly. For example you think travelling is your passion & you want to start writing blog on that. But chances are high you actually are not that passionate about travelling. Just because everyone is saying, so you follow the trend.
So, how to figure out the most suitable topic for you? Let’s check following 4 steps to narrow down your blog niche.
1. Trending: Avoid any topic that is trending unless you want treadmill traffic in your blog or website.
Yes, you heard it right.
Let’s say you should not pick world cup football as your topic. Because people will get interest after every four years. Same goes for any artist, singer who died 50 years ago. Yes, there might be good fan base of that artist, but probably there’s nothing new development on that topic which you can add values. So, to be on safe side you should avoid that.
2. Passionate: Secondly, figure out whether you are actually passionate about that topic or not. If you are not passionate about topic it’s not possible for you to share first hand experience by you.
Let’s say you think you can write about “Guitar lesson”, hoping that checking 10/15 websites you would be able to come up with good stories or even using AI. But your thought would never be the same as who actually played guitar or at-least trying to learn.
3. Viability: The next important criteria to check whether the topic is viable for blogging or not. There are many topics which are suitable for specific platform.
For example, video editing might be your expertise area and you start to create your own blog on that. But take a step back and think about it carefully.
Isn’t opening youtube channel good idea instead of starting blog? Just like that, check your topic and think from users point of view. Where you’d like to experience the niche? blog, Youtube or podcast?
4. Localisation: Finally, if you want to get traffic from around the world, you should be careful while picking your topic. You must not choose any thing that resonates local issues only.
Try to choose topic that covers most part of the world. This will give better chance of getting large traffic pool which will eventually help you to get revenue from Google Adsense or other affiliate marketing. But if you are not concerned about earning through blogging then you can leave it.

If you are smart enough, you can monetise from your blog by adding shop/buy now tab when you’ve sizeable amount of traffic in your blog.
This is on top of digital earning ( Adsense, affiliate marketing etc.) This can be any kind of merchandising. Be it T-shirt, printed Mug, Key rings etc. Just keep in mind while choosing topic make sure your TG has purchase power. Otherwise this may not be effective.
